CISMP - Certificate in Information Security Management Principles
The Certificate in Information Security Management Principles (CISMP) is an internationally recognised qualification which was developed by the British Computer Society and provides a requisite foundation of knowledge necessary for individuals new to the information security field or those with prior experience who look to further enhance and develop their understanding of the key concepts.
The syllabus covers a wide array of topics such as: risk management, legal frameworks, physical security, secure software development and business continuity in a format which allows an individual to learn through self-study with an accompanying book or through a 5 day instructor led course.
The syllabus doesn't go into depth on the technical aspects of information security but focuses primarily on elements of governance, processes, policies and procedures which encapsulate the technical elements that other certifications focus on.
For individuals looking to seek CESG Certified Professional accreditation through the CCP scheme the CISMP is the preferred qualification at practitioner level, although others qualifications of a similar nature may also be accepted in lieu of the CISMP.
